Schweppes Sarsaparilla—contender #1

In my previous post I alluded to the fact I was going to be rating fifteen different sarsaparillas. A battle of the bottles (and one can). A frothy fight to the finish. Well today the war began when I opened the first contender. And I started with one that may already have an unfair advantage. This one has Schweppervescence!

Schweppes Sarsaparilla is one of the contenders from my Regular category. It's a sexy black bottle (due to both the contents of the drink and the label design) that appeals to me as a sars lover and as a fan of good design. Who knows, it may even appeal to a cola lover with a reading disability. So already it has style points. Kudos to you Schweppes.

I've had some people—let's call these people 'weirdos'—tell me that sarsaparilla is a beverage that has a taste not dis-similar to medicine. Luckily for me my Schweppes Sarsaparilla didn't taste like that at all. I should know ... I just defeated the man-cold thanks to some rather revolting cough syrup. No this refreshing drink was sweet and easy to swallow. This was even after I attempted to swish the drink around in my mouth like a professional wine taster. I won't be doing that again.

I've had some sarsaparilla in the past that once drunk left a powdery feeling in my mouth. It's hard to describe. Especially in written word for a novice writer. This drink however didn't have that kind of feeling or nasty aftertaste. The competition is off to a very good start.

The only thing left to do is record the scientific data nutrition information from the bottle and wait for the next contender to offer something by way of comparison. Then the action will truly begin. And after all fifteen contenders have had their chance to impress the judge the results will be revealed in all their glory. I just hope the results can be as visually appealing on my greyscale website as this beautiful black beverage can be.

Lucky I'm not reviewing creaming soda I guess.
